Can’t wait to read more about MOI and clearing Cspine in the field. Long over due.
I’m sure every Medic and EMT fumes when we wrestle a patient’s curved spine onto a flat board, per protocols, only to have the ER doc pull the board first thing and the collar after the same exam I just performed.

Thanks for the comment AD. I have read your blog for quite a while, and can count you among one of the influences that brought me to this media.

Gene Gandy is certainly the guru in this area, and he is right-”documentation is the best shark repellent.” (Reminds me of a great lawyer joke…)

Gene’s work on present mental capacity is one of THE BEST pieces of scholarship I have ever read on the subject, and should be required reading for everyone in the field.

Stay tuned, because I hope that you will see something here from Gene on just that topic. You haven’t hacked my planned-post-file have you?

Keep up the good work over there on your blog. Perhaps we can meet up in Baltimore at the Expo, if I can wrangle my schedule to make the trip.

As my favorite medic/lawyer Gene Gandy says, “documentation is the best shark repellent.”

Another of his favorites is the subject of present mental capacity and the ubiquitous use of the phrase “AAOx4″ and how easily it can be destroyed by a competent lawyer.

In your opinion, what would be the ideal tool for documenting present mental capacity? Perhaps a Folstein Mini-Mental Exam?
