About Me
My name is Pete Reid. I am a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division1. I am also a practicing Attorney in South Carolina2.
Yes, you read that right! I am both a Firefighter/Paramedic and an Attorney. I get a lot of questions asking, ” Why on Earth would a lawyer become a firefighter and paramedic?” It is a story that I am happy to tell.
I received my undergraduate education at The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC3, majoring in Biology and Chemistry. Instead of going to medical school, or nursing school, or paramedic school, I went to law school. I received my legal education from Pierce Law Center in Concord, N.H.4 There, I focused on intellectual property law (patents, trademarks and copyrights) in addition to the traditional areas of legal practice.
After graduation from law school I went to work for a series of intellectual property law boutiques. After several years of working six days a week, twelve hours a day, I became frustrated with performing seemingly meaningless work such as writing patents on the internal drive gears of desktop printers.
Two life altering events occurred within the same year that forced me to ask myself a very important question: “What am I doing with my life?” My answer led me into the fire service with a career department that provides both fire protection and emergency medical services.
I couldn’t be happier. I love being a Firefighter and Paramedic. I love being a lawyer too, but now have the freedom and flexibility to chart my own course.
I soon realized that I possessed a rather unique skill set as both a Firefighter/Paramedic and an Attorney. I wanted to utilize both skill sets in a positive way, and hope that I am on that path through this blog, through my educational seminars, and my legal representation and consulting services.
